Sectoral Work Plan For Implementation the National Population Information, Education and Communication Strategy

, Education and Communication, which was approved by the National Population Council in its session convened on 17/05/2008, the General Secretariat of the National Population Council, has in cooperation and coordination with the executive relevant Governmental and non-Governmental agencies, whose number, according to the plan attached hereto amounted to 22, set up an Executive Plan for it. Representatives of these agencies have participated in the 2 workshops held for this purpose. The first workshop, which discussed and approved the work mechanism of preparing the Plan, was held during the period 25-26/03/2007 and the second one, which discussed and approved the draft of this Executive Plan, was held on 19/04/2008. The Plan was also discussed and approved, after the introduction of some remarks, by the National Population Information and Awareness Committee in its meeting convened on 29/05/2008. The purpose of preparation of this Plan is represented by (Participation in achieving the objectives of the National Population Policy with regard to curbing the high population growth rate in our country, estimated at 3%, mortality rates, particularly among mothers and infants, improving indicators of population status, in general, through promoting and upgrading awareness on population issues, reproductive health and family planning). More specifically, the Plan aims at achieving the following: - Translating the objectives, interventions and procedures indicated under the National Strategy on Population Information, Education and Communication into sectoral plans and activities that have to identify the roles and responsibilities of the relevant agencies; - Improving and expanding Population Information, Education and Communication activities and programs in a manner that would enhance achievement of objectives of the National Population Policy at the national and Governorates levels; - Assisting the concerned agencies in crystallizing it prospective work in the field of Population Awareness within the framework of the National Strategy on Population Information, Education and Communication and integrating the same into the 3rd Economic and Social 5-Year Plan (2006-2010); - Enhancing the coordination, cooperation and integration process among the agencies that engage in the field of Population Information, Education and Communication and expanding work partnership through the addition of executive agencies that shall for the first time take part in engaging in this field, such as the Armed Forces and Security Sector, Local Administration and some Specialized Educational Institutions; - Creating a planning framework to assist the General Secretariat of the National Population Council in following up and evaluating the impact of activities devoted in the field of Population Awareness; We hope that this Plan will contribute to achieving the objectives of the National Population Policy and to translating the contents of the National Strategy on Population Information, Education and Communication into practical reality that can be felt by the community. We extend our thanks and appreciation to the Health and Population Sector Support Program for the assistance accorded in the field of Population Information, Education and Communication, one of which is the subject matter of this do*****ent. The same goes to the relevant agencies for their cooperation with the National Expert and the Directorate Population Information and Awareness in the General Secretariat in competing and revising this Plan.
